Who runs Rail Enthusiasts Ltd The limited company was set up in February of 2004 with the aim of providing a quality on line searchable database for rail enthusiasts. The company is owned by John Martin, a keen rail enthusiast since 1973, and is operated with a staff of 5 employees who regularly update our database throughout the day. Our sister company (www.lorryspotting.com) have succesfully operated a web related searchable database for the past 6 years and currently have 4582 registered users.

Are my sightings safe The entire Rail Enthusiast database is backed up every night to two separate remote locations to ensure that your information is kept safe. All information is encrypted before it is backed up, so there is no way anyone can access your personal information. Once you join your personal log is never deleted under any circumstances

If I join will my credit or debit card automatically be charged in 12 months time Most certainly not . Within 28 days of your membership expiring you will be sent an email inviting you to renew your membership. Under no circumstances will we charge your card again, you will always be in control of deciding to renew or not.

What types of locomotive and multiple units are listed All current and extant diesel and electric locomotives plus all current DMU, EMU and DEMU multiple units. The only locomotives not on the site at present are some of the class 71/74, but this will be rectified by Friday 21st January.

How quickly is the site updated During the normal working day Mon-Fri 9.00am to 5.00pm the site is updated in 'Real Time' so if you send in a sighting or some useful 'Gen' the site will be updated there and then. Obviously if you email us 50 or so photos it might take a while to process them but rest assured we will get round to it and keep you informed . Outside of normal office hours we have organised a voluntary staff of 4 rail enthusiasts to update the database in order to keep it bang up to date. Once your information has been added to the database you will receive either an email or text message to say that it has been actioned according to how you informed us.
